Here, for the first time, all these films are examined, evaluated, and discussed. Their production histories are explored, as are the successes and failures of each film. Furthermore, company histories are recounted, the Berlin Wall is built, and the paranoia of the Cold War descends upon East and West. All of this is reflected in the films.
It is virtually unknown that the German Krimis mostly did try to incorporate current sensationalist true-crime cases. Sometimes openly (THE GIRL ROSEMARY), sometimes more veiled (ZIMMER 13). We examine the five news-breaking sensationalist crime cases that had a huge impact on the development of the genre.
